Theme of the Month

October 2005 - Ways

Railway - Gleaming rails on the high-speed Channel Tunnel Link near Detling, Kent; October 27th

Archways - Part of a complex system of culverts and channels that control the flow of the River Exe through Bickleigh Mill in Devon; October 23rd

Doorway - A porch and door on the Marine Parade at Lyme Regis; October 22nd

Pathway - Porter's Path, Fladbury. I don't know where the name comes from. It could be a person or perhaps a reference to the railway employees who shifted goods between the station which was this side of the bridge and the village of Lower Moor, a mile or so away; October 20th

Gangways - These inevitably come with the exhortation 'KEEP CLEAR' and equally inevitably, they aren't - Maidstone; October 15th

Stairway - No longer can you dash down these stairs and fling yourself off the bus - The Routemasters are no more - Maidstone; October 15th

Waterway - The Worcester & Birmingham Canal, Worcester; October 11th

Passageway - Looking out from the vast covered market in South Molton in Devon; October 7th

Subway - Even when decorated with bright pictures, these underground passages are never inviting, Barnstaple; October 7th

Model Railway - a Dean Goods and a bare, brassy, unpainted 45xx stand ready to test some new trackwork; October 4th

Gateway - The main entrance to Tewkesbury Abbey; October 1st

The idea for 'Ways' as a theme started with gates and developed into something less restrictive. I feel that last month's theme led to too many chocolate box images (on weird chocolate boxes, anyway) and I want the possibility of something abstract. Whether that happens depends on what I find as I'm out and about this month..

Photographs for 'Theme of the Month' are taken with digital cameras, either a Canon Ixus 50 or a Nikon D70.
